Our Team

Bela Singh

Founder and Executive Director

Twenty two years in this field has been an incredible journey that has left me richer for the experience. I have been a humble part of the journeys of thousands of volunteers that have come and experienced India and its complexities and have included me in their lives. I have learnt from them and often ended up in friendships that have transcended time and distance. I have worked with colleagues that have been both mentors and friends and I cherish these relationships.

I strive to provide a home away from home to our visitors that brave to travel and experience challenging situations to achieve what they believe in.

Once somebody said, we live in a blended world and we have Global challenges and local answers. Sustainable development is the key to bring solutions to the problems faced by the people of economically developing countries and I strongly believe in it and work towards. My background in Psychology and Special Education has helped me in understanding many aspects of community development.

Sunil Kumar

I have been working in this field from last 17 years as a Transport in-charge and accounts assistant. I enjoy this work because I meet people coming from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. This helps me learn about the world and realize that in spite of differences on the surface, we are all similar inside with similar values. I have risen from the position of the driver to transport in-charge and accounts assistant because I was given the opportunity by the organization and taught the trade with love and care. My hobbies are watching films, music, shopping on the net and farming. I belong to Himachal Pradesh and to a farmer’s family.

Jeetu

My name is Ajay Saxena, but everyone fondly calls me 'Jeetu'. I have worked in this field for 9 years with Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS) and then I moved to Jaipur to work as a Pharmacist for which I have a degree. Now, as the need arose in BGC, I have come to join them. I enjoy making new acquaintances and am passionate about learning new things and gaining experiences from where ever I go and whoever I meet.

Pawan Nautiyal

Chef

I belong to Uttrakhand state of India and was born to farmer’s family. I have been working in this field since last 17 years as a chef and sometimes enjoy helping volunteers in the field as well as receiving them at the airport. I take pleasure in cooking Indian, Mughlai, Chinese and Continental food for the volunteers. They enjoy my cooking to the extent that they would like to take me along with them. The other thing I like about working in this field is that I get to learn a lot from cultural exchange. Other than learning new dishes, I enjoy listening to music and playing cricket.

Ashwini Kumar

Driver and field assistant

I belong to a farmer’s family and come from Himachal Pradesh. Whenever I get time during cultivation and harvest season, I go back to my village to help the family and enjoy the hard work. However, I enjoy driving the volunteers safely and exchanging cultural information with them. I have been in this field from 11 years. What surprises me is that how eager the people from different countries are to learn about our culture and help our communities!! And I am equally inquisitive to learn about them. I love working here because we live like family with respect and care for everyone. My hobbies are to watch old films, playing cricket and watching cricket matches.

Being the first Born from a humble family of eleven siblings, I assumed the role and responsibility of a leader at a very young age. I realized EDUCATION was the key towards my own success and that of my family and the community around me. As a young African/Tanzanian woman education became my security from, early marriages.

My journey towards working in volunteerism started in 1994, (25 years ago) when I joined an Irish volunteer organization called APSO. I supervised and managed APSO volunteer programs Tanzania for 10 years. In 2004 I joined another International volunteer organization – CCS to run volunteer programs in Tanzania. I have all along dedicated myself to work with International Volunteers, connecting them with my own community, facilitating an exchange of cultures between volunteers and our societies, and exposing them to our beautiful country and its people.
By working with volunteers, it has helped me to achieve my lifelong dream of helping young girls and women to realize education is the most important tool to help them out of poverty and avoid early/forced marriages.
